Felipe Escalona and the protection of land in Patagonia

Patagonia is characterized by its unique biodiversity in the world. This is why in “Después de Mañana”, Kike Mujica talks to Felipe Escalona, founder and CEO of The Real Eco State, the first company in our country to sell land for conservation. 

From its creation in 2017 until now, Escalona pointed out that they managed to "transform conservation and this focus on attacking global warming, into a business". On the progress of the business model, the founder of The Real Eco State noted that "interest has been generated not only in Chile, but also abroad". 

Regarding the sale of land, the lawyer explains that these are places of 5 to 20 hectares, which, among other things, cannot be fenced or urbanized, in order to maintain the biodiversity of these areas. In this line, Felipe Escalona explains that "what we invite you to do is to get in touch with nature and take care of it". 

In order to maintain the biodiversity of these territories, The Real Eco State uses the Conservation Easement, a rule that consists of the power to conserve the environmental heritage of a property. "With the Conservation Easement, the company defines the parameters under which the land can be used or certain interventions can be carried out," explains the lawyer.   

According to The Real Eco State, so far 11 private conservation park projects have been executed, 3 of which are in the process of being sold, so, according to its founder and general manager, they hope to continue with this business model that also contributes to the care of the environment.
